French Omelette

French Omelette

A French omelette is like the cooler, smoother sibling of regular omelettes. It’s a classic dish in French cooking that’s super quick and easy to make. Instead of piling in a bunch of fillings, you keep it simple and let the eggs take centre stage.

Instead of folding the omelette, it is rolled up into a neat cylinder shape. Fresh herbs like chives or parsley are added on top for extra flavour.

A French omelette is great for breakfast, brunch, or anytime you’re in the mood for some eggy goodness. It’s all about the creamy, velvety texture and the pure taste of the eggs. Simple, delicious, and très bien!

FILLINGS

Here are some light and tasty fillings that you can consider for your omelette:

  1. Fresh Herbs: Chopped herbs like chives, parsley, basil, or dill add a burst of freshness and flavour to your omelette.
  2. Cheese: Opt for lighter cheeses such as crumbled feta, goat cheese, or grated Parmesan. They melt beautifully and add a creamy touch.
  3. Sautéed Vegetables: Lightly cooked veggies like spinach, mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, or zucchini can be delicious additions. Sauté them briefly in the Thermomix before adding them to the omelette.
  4. Tomatoes: Sliced or diced tomatoes, especially cherry tomatoes, bring a juicy and slightly tangy element to your omelette.
  5. Smoked Salmon: For a touch of luxury, flaked smoked salmon pairs wonderfully with eggs. Add it just before rolling up the omelette.
  6. Avocado: Sliced or mashed avocado lends a creamy texture and a healthy boost of good fats to your omelette.
  7. Ham or Turkey: Lean and thinly sliced ham or turkey can be a flavourful addition.

Remember, the beauty of a French omelette lies in its simplicity, so it’s best to choose just one or two fillings to let the eggs shine. Feel free to mix and match these suggestions based on your preferences and create your own delicious combination. Enjoy your omelette!

What to Serve with your omelette

A French omelette is often enjoyed as a standalone dish due to its delicate and creamy texture. However, if you’d like to serve it with some accompaniments, here are a few options that complement the flavours of a French omelette:

  1. Crusty Bread: A slice of crusty French bread or a baguette is a classic choice to serve alongside a French omelette. It’s perfect for sopping up any leftover egg or enjoying with a spread of butter.
  2. Mixed Greens: A simple side salad made with mixed greens, dressed lightly with vinaigrette, can provide a fresh and crisp contrast to the richness of the omelette. Consider adding some cherry tomatoes, cucumber slices, walnuts or radishes for extra flavour and texture.
  3. Herbed Potatoes: Lightly seasoned and roasted potatoes, such as baby potatoes or potato wedges, can be a satisfying accompaniment. Toss them in olive oil, sprinkle with herbs like rosemary or thyme, and roast until crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.
  4. Sautéed Mushrooms: Earthy and savoury sautéed mushrooms make a delightful addition to a French omelette. Cook them with a bit of butter or olive oil, garlic, and herbs like thyme or parsley.

Remember, the idea is to keep the sides light and simple, allowing the French omelette to shine as the main attraction. Choose sides that complement the flavours and provide some textural variety to your meal.
